The Australian Border Force (ABF) is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency, and customs service, both operational and policy, playing a critical role in protecting Australia's national security. Crucial to ABF's work is maintaining the capacity and capability to respond to rapid shifts in ABF's operating environment that are transforming the demands on ABF's workforce.

 

The ABF Work Health and Safety (WHS) Section provides functional support, coordination, advice and oversight on WHS strategy, procedure and processes, compliance, risk identification and mitigation, and assurance in support of the ABFs evolving and continually maturing health and safety performance against operational and corporate objectives.

We are looking for highly motivated, skilled, enthusiastic and customer-focused individuals to meet current and anticipated EL 1 vacancies within the team. The positions require officers to understand the broader responsibilities and strategic direction of the ABF and the Department of Home Affairs. The Inspector ABF WHS is an exciting and dynamic role and will see the successful candidate working in a supportive environment, leading WHS improvements with, and in support of a broad range of stakeholders.

 

The Section is seeking a candidate with exceptional time management, workload prioritisation, and strong communication skills. This role will be suited to someone who enjoys working as part of a small team and providing advice or support to others.

As an ABF Inspector within the section, the occupants of these positions will be highly responsive, self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal, organisational and teamwork skills. The occupant will possess the ability to work in a dynamic, high tempo environment, possess a high degree of sound judgement, and the ability to communicate and provide advice across a wide range of stakeholders. The applicant will need to be able to lead a small team in support of the broader section.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Interpreting and applying work knowledge to a range of legislation, guidelines and instructions, policy and procedures, and providing detailed technical and professional advice
  • Supporting ABF workers, managers and supervisors and executives in responding to WHS obligations through building and maintaining professional relationships
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance and implementation of WHS policies, procedures, processes and projects
  • Provide subject matter advice to the ABF on WHS risks and priorities, developing and reporting on critical risks and controls across operational domains
  • Lead and inspire effective teams, provide direction and guidance, addressing staffing matters early and managing performance issues
  • Promoting and supporting a culture of achievement, excellence and integrity.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
