Our ideal candidates will have the following skills and capabilities to fulfil the below three roles.

1. Trainer - Status Resolution Training Management (SRTM)

The Status Resolution Training Management Team is dedicated to making sure that Status Resolution Officers and ABF officers have the training they require to do their job. We are a friendly crew who support each other to do their best work. If you enjoy helping people understand concepts and develop their abilities, using your initiative and troubleshooting, we'd love to have you on the team. SRTM is part of The Status Resolution Capability and Criminal Justice Programs. It is a supportive and bustling section with a range of dynamic and interesting work and collaboration opportunities.

As a trainer, you will be an essential part of the team. You will develop, facilitate and monitor Status Resolution courses relating to potential visa pathways in line with departmental objectives and priorities. You will communicate with influence - explaining complicated topics to a range of audiences and individuals. You will support the management of stakeholders and the continuous improvement of the Status Resolution training products. You will be provided with extensive support and training for your role.

2. Policy Officer - Governance and Scrutiny Team (G&S)

The Governance and Scrutiny team manages the scrutiny of Status Resolution (SR) operations by external agencies, undertakes corporate reporting and the development and maintenance of SR tools. It is a fast-paced policy area, often responding to urgent internal and external stakeholder demands at short notice. The team enjoys a variety of work from different external scrutiny sources resulting in a range of actionable items - e.g. reviewing policy documents and findings which need to be translated into Procedural Instructions. As our work is often published externally, we need you to have excellent writing skills. We are looking for people who enjoy a challenge and can pitch in at short notice to deliver on tight deadlines. Flexibility, strong teamwork and support are an essential part of our DNA. And, we will be there to support you in this work.

As a Governance and Scrutiny policy officer, you will exercise high levels of initiative and judgement. You will provide technical and policy advice to support the SRN, the Detention and Removal network within ABF, and various areas of the visa processing network. You will be required to be technically proficient with departmental systems and legislation; along with Status Resolution policy and tools to provide guidance and to support the delivery of the Government's community protection and immigration integrity objectives. You will exercise leadership by setting team priorities; managing a team; managing workflows; liaising with, coordinating, and developing critical stakeholder relationships. And we will help you get up to speed.

3. Case Officer - Ministerial Intervention (MI)

The Ministerial Intervention (MI) section is responsible for providing high level case support, procedural advice and guidance on the resolution of cases to the Status Resolution Network and Portfolio Ministers. The MI section has responsibility for exploring resolution and management options for complex and high profile cases through progression of requests for ministerial intervention under the Migration Act 1958 (the Act), which provides the Minister with personal powers to intervene in individual cases.

The section also has responsibility for the management of Removal Pending Bridging Visas and responds to the Commonwealth Ombudsman and Australian Human Rights Commission enquiries relating to current or previously held cases.

The MI section has a strong operational focus, and is an area of challenging and engaging work.  We are comprised of two teams located in Canberra and Parramatta. These teams have carriage of detention related powers under sections 195A and 197AB of the Act and the post-Tribunal review powers under sections 351, 417 and 501J of the Act.
