About our team
Regional Operations | Ac West | Operations West | Border Intelligence WA/SA
The Border Intelligence SA (BI SA) team is part of a larger section, Border Intelligence WA/SA, and reports to a section head based in Western Australia. The BI SA team are based in Port Adelaide, South Australia and primarily support the functions of ABF Operations SA. This current vacancy at the EL1 level therefore plays a critical role is representing Border Intelligence functions within the SA jurisdiction.
Importantly, the role is responsible for leading a team of Intelligence Analysts who undertake a diverse range of functions including all-source operational intelligence assessment, liaison with partners, support for operational planning, threat discovery and intelligence collection management. The section produces border intelligence to support the operations of the Australian Border Force (ABF) and partner agencies.
The threat environment focus is on both inwards and outwards activity in the sea cargo, air cargo, postal, small craft, air and sea passenger, vessel, crew, onshore visa and associated environments.
BI SA is part of a border intelligence network who play a critical role in achieving a number of ABF Intelligence outputs, and in doing so this role is responsible for developing and maintaining key partnerships both internally and externally with stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the allocation and prioritisation of an intelligence capability in keeping with operational requirements and resource capacities.
- Engage with senior level stakeholders across state and national intelligence and law enforcement agencies to foster greater collaboration, leverage partner capabilities and ensure flow of mission critical information.
- Work under limited direction to deliver priority outcomes to support the ABF, while ensuring partners and key business units are well briefed and advised, including Intelligence Executive.
- Build a positive and productive team environment, identify and address development needs, guide, mentor and give appropriate feedback, support and assess staff performance and acknowledge individual and team performance achievements.
- Guide, mentor and develop team members through formal and informal training supporting continuous improvement.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
