Regional Operations | Ac South | Aviation & Regional Operations Sth | Various

 

South Division is responsible for the delivery of operations and support across Victoria and Tasmania. It oversees Australia's gateways, including international airports and seaports while facilitating legitimate trade and travel, and undertakes operations in the prevention, deterrence and detection of regulated goods into Australia.

 

Opportunities are available in ABF South (Victoria) for ABF Inspectors (EL1).

 

About the Branch

Operations South deploys officers to perform border security and operational tasks in a wide variety of environments across Victoria and Tasmania, applying a flexible, deployable workforce on an intelligence-informed risk based approach.

 

Operations South delivers operational effect through: inspecting and examining sea cargo, air cargo, and international mail; processing international vessels and international travellers across all points of entry/ exit in Victoria and Tasmania; detecting and seizing prohibited, restricted and regulated goods; undertaking Investigations to target serious and organised crime; identifying, assessing, and delivering intelligence on specific border threat actors, events and vulnerabilities; and facilitating legitimate trade and travel.

As an Inspector you perform an important leadership role, working under the broad direction of the Superintendent (EL2) to develop and lead highly performing teams to deliver on a range of strategic and operational priorities in a highly complex, sensitive and risk based environment.

Duties and responsibilities

 

An ABF Inspector (EL1) would generally be required to:

  • Lead and manage complex or sensitive tasks, providing strategic direction and sound policy advice

  • Address critical issues, solve complex problems, and oversee projects impacting strategic, or operational outcomes

  • Build workforce capability by fostering talent, motivating staff, and driving team objectives

  • Drive ABF priorities, lead change initiatives, and promote smarter, more efficient practices

  • Ensure compliance with corporate and operational policies and procedures

  • Build, support and maintain complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders while effectively managing competing priorities

  • Lead and inspire positive and effective teams, driving a positive workplace culture, providing direction and guidance, addressing staffing matters early and managing performance and behaviour issues with staff

  • Promote and ensure team members behave in accordance with WHS legislation, policies, directions and reasonable instructions in relation to work health and safety.

 

Additional information

 

Designated positions within the ABF require the occupant to meet all Border Force Officer essential qualifications. If successful for one of these positions, you will be required to:

  • Be operational ready (by meeting and sustaining the medical, fitness and psychometric requirements necessary for a role)

  • Be sworn (through subscribing the ABF oath or affirmation)

  • Be uniformed (unless their position requires to wear business attire)

  • Maintain essential and role-specific qualifications such as technical qualifications.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

​The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • Fulfil the Department’s minimum requirements by satisfactorily answering all screening questions during the application process

  • Obtain and maintain the required Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) security clearance and Department of Home Affairs Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).

 

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
