Cyber & Infrastructure Security | Cyber & Infra Security Centre | Auscheck | Discretionary Appeals and Capability Section

 

The Discretionary Appeals team have case management officers (Investigators/Assessors) who manage discretionary card applications from those applicant's that have been found not eligible to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) or Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) due to a security relevant conviction under the Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005 and the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Regulations 2003 (the Regulations).

 

Officers will undertake complex case management and investigations to assess an applicant's criminal history and other supporting documents to provide a written administrative decision for the Delegate of the Secretary of Home Affairs. Officers will ensure these written decisions are consistent, considered, proportionate and defensible in accordance with the Regulations. Officers provide timely advice to applicant's enquiries and will manage an active case load in accordance with regulatory time frames.

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Monitor and track correspondence of applicants to ensure it is triaged and actioned accordingly
  • Undertake a range of simple to complex cases to investigate and assess an applicant’s criminal history and other supporting documents to provide a draft administrative decision
  • Ensure these written decisions are consistent, proportionate, considered and defensible in accordance with the Regulations
  • Work as part of a team and independently perform procedural, clerical and administrative support work to achieve results
  • Contribute to the development of high quality templates and operational documents to support the function of the team when required.

 

Additional information

 

Desirable

  • Qualifications in law, criminology, policing, or Government investigations 
  • Experience in undertaking investigation and case management in a regulatory setting
  • Have case management experience
  • Have relevant compliance or regulatory experience in an operational setting.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
