What is the job?

Officers working in Aviation Operations work within international airports to conduct passenger processing and enforce customs and immigration legislation at the border. They enable the movement of passengers by conducting immigration clearance, visa and identity checks and responding to national intelligence alerts.

They may ask questions and undertake search and examination activities, including searching persons, baggage and aircraft. Aviation Operations officers located at Darwin International Airport are part of an excellent shift roster providing a 24/7 365 day support to operations.

Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment

To be eligible to work with the Department of Home Affairs you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Fulfil the Department’s minimum requirements by satisfactorily answering all screening questions during the application process
  • Obtain and maintain the required AGSVA clearance
  • Obtain and maintain a current Employment Suitability Clearance
  • Satisfy a probation period
  • Undergo a health assessment (if applicable).
