DS Executive | Strategic Policy | Strategy and Budget

 

The Strategy Branch provides cross-cutting advice that shapes high-level policy outcomes and drives the strategic direction of the Department. Our focus is on providing senior executives and ministers with integrated, forward-looking advice that tackles long-term strategic challenges and seizes emerging opportunities for the Portfolio.

 

Working across the portfolio and with key Government stakeholders, we connect diverse areas to identify key trends, address priority issues, and develop innovative solutions. We work closely with partners across Government to ensure alignment with broader Government priorities. The Strategy Branch also builds strategic policy and foresight capabilities across the department, helping articulate a clear direction for the Portfolio.

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Lead the development of strategic policy, including undertaking research and analysis to identify trends and emerging issues
  • Supervise, guide and mentor staff in their work and support them to achieve outcomes and build capability
  • Lead engagement with a broad range of stakeholders, including consultation with internal and external stakeholders across all stages of the policy development process.
  • Manage staff to deliver high level, complex and/or sensitive policy documents, briefings and submissions for senior executive and ministers
  • Maintain an awareness of policy work being undertaken in other relevant work streams and across the APS to identify interrelationships and impacts.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
