About our team

 

Chief Operating Officer Group | Chief Operating Officer Group | Chief Medical Officer | Health Policy and Assurance Branch

 

The Health Policy and Assurance Branch is responsible for the development and maintenance of strategic and operational migration health policy and processing procedures to balance the facilitation of immigration with the protection of the health Public Interest Criteria. The Branch is also responsible for detention and migration health policies and health specific standard operating procedures. We undertake broad consultation with stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure that these health policies are underpinned by quality research, analysis and contextual awareness.

Has an understanding or the ability to quickly obtain knowledge of the policy and procedural control framework and is a:

You will also be supported to use your decision-making skills to make decisions, with direction from more senior staff, on tasks/assignments with considerable complexity and sensitivity.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Prepare high-quality written reports, briefs and other documents for a range of audiences on complex detention and migration health issues
  • Interpret relevant policies and procedures to assist in the development of technically accurate communication products
  • Engage with a broad spectrum of staff and to develop strong partnerships with stakeholders 
  • Develop required legislative or policy amendments that promote a consistent regulatory approach across the migration health area 
  • Operate as part of a team in a dynamic, changing environment with the ability to work independently on multiple projects with minimal supervision.

 

Additional information

 

Desirable
Have significant experience in policy and procedures and managing information and records within a policy and procedural control framework.

 

The successful candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas: 
 

  • Strategic or legal policy and/or legislative development, advice and implementation
  • Communications, including developing complex briefs, procedural instructions and reports
  • Stakeholder engagement/management and experience working in a team.
  • Compliance and regulation experience in policy analysis, policy and procedural control frameworks and an understanding of Australia's Detention and Migration Health programs would be beneficial but is not essential.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
