People Division delivers high quality human resource (HR) services and advice to internal and external stakeholders across a broad range of HR disciplines.
APS5 HR Advisors support the efficient and effective management of staff through the provision of HR services and advice to managers, staff and partner agencies.
People Division is made up of four Branches:
- Payroll and Conditions
- Recruitment, Diversity and Learning
- Health, Safety and Wellbeing
- People Engagement, Planning and Innovation

Duties and responsibilities
We are creating a merit pool at the APS5 level across various states and territories in Australia to fill existing and upcoming vacancies in multiple areas throughout the People Division. We are seeking candidates with a passion for HR, public service, and a commitment to integrity.
APS5 Human Resource Advisors work under limited supervision to conduct high quality HR services and provide advice to our portfolio. They coordinate and respond to requests and enquiries by employees, and maintain the integrity and currency of HR systems data and work with new and current staff to develop and maintain departmental records. They are committed to developing competence across various HR practice areas and have a sound understanding of current business objectives and external trends.
Tasks and duties may include but is not limited to:
- Provide logistical and legislative HR support to internal and external stakeholders in accordance with relevant legislation, departmental policies and procedures
- Communicate with and provide advice and recommendations to a wide variety of stakeholders on moderately complex-to complex issues
- Support collaboration with managers and executive staff and management of HR risks, compliance and issues Conduct design, development and implementation of HR initiatives that improve staff performance, engagement, and wellbeing
- Demonstrate ethical behaviour and integrity to enhance team culture and contribute to a positive workplace
- Promote and champion an inclusive and diverse workplace culture and ensure all staff are valued and recognised for their qualities, ideas and perspectives
- Cultivate a high-performance culture by setting an example for peers to follow.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
