Business Architecture initiate and direct the creation and review of our enterprise capability strategy to achieve departmental purposes and strategic priorities and objectives. They take responsibility for the design and build of contemporary business capabilities to deliver departmental objectives and assign responsibilities to their teams. Business Architects work within multi-disciplinary groups across business, application, information and solution architects and business analysts. They work with Business areas to unpack their business related capabilities including all the fundamental inputs to capability (FIC) and to undertake capability maturity assessments. They also assist with developing working models of business, information, application and infrastructure architecture layers for their assigned business area or business related capability. Lead Business Architects oversee a Capability Domain and a small team of Business Architects who oversee relevant Capability Programs. They provide a cohesive overview of the entire Domain and ensure alignment within their Domain as well as across the other Domains.

Our ideal candidate
- Professional experience and domain knowledge used to steer recommendations, coach and mentor staff, and contribute to a peer network to enhance the Department's Business Architecture capability
- Proven ability to provide senior executive level advice to shape strategic thinking, define business drivers, develop business goals, translate business strategy and objectives into operating models
- Strong understanding of business needs and how people, processes, information and technology can be leveraged to improve capability
- Understanding of Whole of Government policies and standards and demonstrated delivery of best practice business architecture methodologies.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide leadership to multi-disciplinary groups across business, application, information and solution architects and business analysts
- Work with the business area to unpack their business related capabilities including all the fundamental inputs to capability (FIC) and to undertake capability maturity assessments
- Develop working models of business, information, application and infrastructure architecture layers for their assigned business area or business related capability
- Contribute technical experience and knowledge to support the Department's deliverables including strategic guidance, capital investment planning, and application assessment, prioritisation and implementation
- Mentor and guide team members, model best practice and behaviour and continually demonstrate high performance and self-development.
Additional information
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in some or all of the following:
- Documenting the business' capabilities and the related Fundamental Inputs to Capability
- Developing Business Architecture and change blueprints, including experience in modelling architecture using a variety of tools and techniques
- Developing Portfolio rationalisation strategies and roadmaps
- 5+ years of experience in architecture (including design and consulting), across multiple domains and technologies
- Current knowledge and understanding of industry trends and emerging technologies associated with architecture to create business opportunities
- Advanced specialist and professional knowledge to integrate solutions within the Department utilising multi-disciplined technology skills in order to ensure compliance with architectural principles and practices
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or field (e.g. Information Technology, Network Engineering, Systems Engineering) is desired
- Completion of training in Architecture vocational skills, such as Applied Business Architecture and Business Process Design is required.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
