About our role
As an APS4 Leading Border Force Officer in Operation AEGIS, you will play a vital role in ensuring the security and safety of Australia’s borders through leading compliance and enforcement activities. Operation AEGIS works closely with law enforcement partners, including the Australian Federal Police (AFP), to monitor and enforce visa and community safety conditions for individuals under the Bridging (Removal Pending) visa. Your leadership will be essential in guiding teams, making strategic decisions, and ensuring operational effectiveness in this high-impact role.
You will be part of a team dedicated to enforcing critical compliance measures related to the Bridging (Removal Pending) visa cohort, as well as community supervision orders that mandate strict behavior and reporting protocols. With a mission-focused mindset, you will work on the ground and in coordination with key agencies, including the AFP and state and territory police, to monitor and enforce community safety standards.

Duties and responsibilities
Working in one of the three specialized sections of Operation AEGIS your responsibilities as a Border Force Officer will include both independent and team-based tasks in the following key areas:
1. Regional Compliance and Enforcement (RCE)
- Electronic Monitoring and Field Operations: Assist in the application, removal, and technical support of electronic monitoring devices (EMDs) to ensure adherence to behavior conditions set by law
- Compliance Inspections and Risk Mitigation: Conduct proactive compliance checks and respond to breaches of conditions in collaboration with law enforcement agencies
- Court Support and Documentation: Represent the ABF at court proceedings related to compliance breaches and provide operational support to legal processes
- Risk Management: Participate in operational risk assessments, applying your judgment to make decisions that uphold safety and compliance within the community.
2. National Monitoring and Investigations
- 24/7 National Monitoring: Support national compliance operations by participating in a 24/7 monitoring shift team, overseeing compliance with safety and visa conditions for high-risk individuals
- Investigation and Incident Reporting: Document and report suspected criminal breaches of visa conditions under the Migration Act 1958 to relevant authorities, ensuring timely action
- Investigation Support: Contribute to investigations by gathering and analysing compliance data, performing risk assessments, and identifying potential security issues.
3. Operational Support & Electronic Monitoring Device Technical Management
- Policy and Procedures: Assist in maintaining compliance with procedural guidelines, policy documentation, and governance frameworks essential for the operational integrity of Operation AEGIS
- Contract and Inventory Management: Support contract management, procurement, and inventory control for EMDs and related resources
- Training and Capability: Participate in training and onboarding programs for new recruits, ensuring all team members are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for their roles.
Additional information
To be eligible for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be an Australian Citizen and meet security clearance requirements (Baseline or Negative Vetting Level 1)
- Meet operational readiness standards, including medical, fitness, and psychometric requirements
- Subscribe to the ABF Oath or Affirmation and comply with uniform and equipment protocols, with specific roles potentially requiring operational safety training and use of personal defence equipment.
For some roles, you will also be required to:
- Acquire a Working with Children Check (required for specific roles)
- Complete Operational Safety Training and willing to carry and use personal defence equipment, including a firearm, if required
- Work outside of business hours including weekends (overtime or shift work required for some roles)
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations (required for specific roles).
Additional Desirable Experience:
- Understanding of ABF Operation AEGIS roles, responsibilities, and links throughout the ABF, the Department and broader Government
- Familiarity with electronic monitoring and experience in fields such as compliance, investigations, detention, contract management, risk assessment, or governance is highly regarded.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
