We have a number of vacancies within our Field Operations, Removal Operations and Status Resolution branches that contribute to managing and upholding the integrity of Australia's migration program. These roles will provide the right people with unique and challenging opportunities to develop and enhance their skills, whilst working on complex cases and issues within a high profile and politically sensitive environment. 

 

Field Operations Section - is an operational enforcement capability of the Immigration Compliance Operations Division with a multi-faceted, field-based enforcement capability that is responsive to operational priorities. The Field Operations Branch harnesses specialist enforcement and investigative capabilities to target serious and organised crime, serious and deliberate non-compliance and systematic vulnerabilities that threaten the integrity of Australia's trade and migration systems.

 

Field Operations Officers conduct a range of intelligence informed, risk-based operations improving compliance with immigration laws by locating and detaining unlawful non-citizens who are identified as a risk to the safety of the community or who pose a threat.

 

Removal Operations Section - encompasses a range of duties and activities that include the safe and lawful removal of unlawful non-citizens (UNC) from Australia under the Migration Act 1958 (the Migration Act). The job role of a Removal Officer encompasses a range of duties and activities that include the safe and lawful removal of unlawful non-citizens (UNCs) from Australia under the Migration Act 1958 (the Migration Act).

 

A Removal Officer uses their detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, powers and departmental policies to ensure that removals are undertaken lawfully and are compliant with duty of care requirements and international standards. Officers work in close collaboration with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and execute removal plans, including utilisation of well-developed interpersonal skills that allow them to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and build relationships that support the removal process.

 

Status Resolution Section -The purpose of this section is to facilitate timely resolution of the visa status of non-citizens, facilitate return and removals activity where necessary and proactively manage the cases of non-citizens whose status is still being determined, whilst reducing risks to the community. Status Resolution Officers contribute to migration program integrity through proactive identification, management and resolution of clients' immigration status whilst reducing the risk of physical, economic and social harm to the Australian community.

 

Status Resolution Officers leverage all opportunities for clear, consistent messaging to progress status resolution outcomes. They use a range of tools and services to ensure cases progress to a status resolution outcome in a lawful, timely and appropriate manner.

Immigration Compliance Operations Division is looking for team oriented, collaborative and hardworking people who are flexible, resilient, demonstrate professionalism and can exercise sound judgement in responding to operational activities that are aimed at upholding the integrity of Australia's migration program and helping build a safe, secure and prosperous Australia.

 

Given our roles are a current key priority for the Australian Government; the operational tempo is significantly heightened. Officers will need to integrate quickly (supported with appropriate training) to work effectively with other agencies in a dynamic operational environment.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

Dependant on your role, as an APS 4, ideally your broad skill set will enable you to;

  • Maintain an understanding of relevant legislation and policy and apply in all aspects of your role

  • Work collaboratively with internal ABF and Department areas and partner agencies 

  • Contribute to and conduct the planning of operational activities considering risk and opportunities

  • Participate in operational reporting and briefings

  • Use appropriate departmental systems to record and report activity

  • Deal with competing deadlines and priorities and escalate as required.

 

These positions may be subject to medical, psychometric and fitness testing.

All positions are Darwin based and require a physical presence, out-posting is not available for these roles. Relocation assistance will be considered for interstate candidates willing to relocate to Darwin.

 

Some positions across the teams are designated positions and will require you to meet all Border Force Officer essential qualifications.

 

If successful for one of these positions, you will be required to:

  • Be operationally ready (by meeting and sustaining the medical, fitness and psychometric requirements necessary for a role)

  • Be a sworn officer (through subscribing the ABF oath or affirmation)

  • Be uniformed (unless the position requires wearing of business attire)

  • Maintain essential and role-specific qualifications

  • Actively participate in career management (postings and deployments)

  • Some positions will require an on-call function outside of business hours including weekends (overtime or flex).

 

Some positions may further require you to:

  • Complete Operational Safety Training and be willing to carry and use personal defence equipment, including a firearm, if required

  • Obtain and maintain a Working with Vulnerable People Check and/or Working with Children Check

  • Obtain and maintain an Australian Driver's Licence

  • Ability to obtain and maintain and Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)

  • Obtain and maintain a First Aid Certificate.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
