Operations NT delivers functions through border enforcement and operational activities on cross-border movements of people and goods in a number of operational areas, including international airports, seaports and cargo facilities.
Operations NT plays a vital role processing travellers and goods to protect the Northern Territory's border from the entry of illegal and harmful goods and those intending to commit migration fraud or threaten the national interest.
This includes processing travellers and goods arriving and departing Australia outside of major metropolitan airports and seaports, such as, vessels and small craft at remote seaports and light aircraft at regional airfields.

Duties and responsibilities
An APS 4 Leading Border Force Officer is expected to attain and maintain the competencies, skills, knowledge and attributes of an APS 4 Leading Border Force Officer (General Duties).
Your duties may include:

Maintaining awareness of border threats and the effectiveness of border controls relating to all operational environments
-
Having a sound general knowledge of the role and functions of the Department and the ABF and an understanding of how these relate to a specific work area
-
Providing sound advice and recommendations within an area of specialisation to Ops NT Supervisors, Team Leaders and peers
-
Assisting in the development of tactical responses to maintain border controls including traveller processing, aircraft and vessel clearance including intervention, air and sea cargo processing and intervention, maritime and land patrols and cargo compliance

Undertaking procedural and administrative support or operational tasks including some research and analysis activities
-
Contributing to planning and business improvement strategies within the work area
-
Representing the work area or the ABF at community, forums and other stakeholder meetings
-
Providing leadership to section team in order to achieve outputs and outcomes
-
Leading change management and reform, including cultural change
-
Building rapport and maintaining stakeholder relationships in a professional capacity
-
Creating and maintaining accurate recordkeeping practices in line with the Department's policy and procedures
-
Modelling appropriate workplace behaviours and demonstrate the highest level of personal accountability, ethics and integrity.
Additional information
Officers may be required to:

Undertake regional and interstate travel

Work with high risk and/or challenging clients

Work in remote or regional areas

Work in challenging environmental conditions (such as hot, cold, humid, wet or dry)

Work outside of the standard core hours

Obtain and maintain a valid Australian driver's licence.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
