About our team

 

Chief Operating Officer Group | Integrity Security & Assurance | Audit & Assurance | Internal Scrutiny

 

Audit and Assurance Branch provides independent advice and assurance across the department and the ABF and enables effective external oversight of the department's functions and activities. The role of the Branch is to provide confidence that risks are being managed and the department is meeting its obligations to the community.


Core functions include:

  • Overseeing the internal and external audit and fraud control arrangements
  • Managing the Department's statutory obligations under the Public Interest Disclosure scheme
  • Managing the relationships with external scrutiny bodies such as the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO), the Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman, Australian Human Rights Commission and the Australian Red Cross
  • Providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice, statutory reporting and insight on immigration detention and the management of individual long-term detention cases
  • Monitoring and assessing the Department's compliance with its key obligations and assuring the integrity of the policy and procedure control framework.

Duties and responsibilities
 

  • Engaging regularly with key stakeholders and develop strong working relationships within the Department and across other Government agencies
  • Prepare and provide advice to management relating to key business risks, opportunities and vulnerabilities relating to the Department's key functions, operations and strategic direction
  • Contribute to the work of Audit and Assurance Branch more broadly
  • Maintain complete and accurate records in accordance with the current legislation and Departmental policy
  • Responding to complex queries from business areas
  • Assigned project work, including ad hoc tasks
  • Review and update internal team standard operating procedures regularly
  • Undertake other duties as directed to support the Section more broadly.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
