Cyber Policy and Programs Branch (CPP) is seeking experienced Policy Officers to join a dynamic team with an exciting agenda within the growing cyber security field.

 

These are non-technical generalist policy roles with opportunities for diverse work and to develop, gain new skills and experience while working on cutting edge public policy and national security issues.

Our ideal candidate

 

Previous experience or training in technology or cyber security is welcomed, but you don't need to be a technologist or subject matter expert. This is not a technical role. Successful applicants should have:

  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated problem solving or analytical skills

  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive stakeholder relationships

  • Ability to quickly gain an understanding of policies, programs, regulatory frameworks, and then apply this knowledge to policy development

  • Integrity and sound judgement when engaging with risk.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

Work in a team to:

  • Support implementation of the 2023-30 Australian Cyber Security Strategy and Australia's first Cyber Security Act

  • Engage with international counterparts to progress a range of current and emerging cyber and technology policy matters

  • Engage stakeholders to support cyber and technology security related policy development

  • Work autonomously and collaboratively to contribute to policy and programs initiatives

  • Support the development and implementation of cyber security legislative reforms

  • Develop high-quality briefing materials and advice to support engagement with Government, industry and international stakeholders

  • Support broader work of the branch as required

  • Depending on availability, you may have opportunities to supervise and develop junior staff and act at a higher level, placing you competitively for your career progression.

Additional information

 

Highly regarded:

  • Qualifications or demonstrable experience in national security, policy, law and program management cyber security, international relations and/or intelligence - direct or as part of a transferrable skillset

  • You may also have a background in roles which solve problems or support processes involving a range of stakeholders across government

  • Experience managing junior staff.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
