Cyber Policy and Programs Branch (CPP) is seeking Policy Officers to join a dynamic team with an exciting agenda within the growing cyber security field.
Set within the context of the Australian Government's 2023-2030 Cyber Security Strategy, Cyber Policy and Programs Branch engages with global and domestic cyber policy risks and opportunities to maintain and enhance Australia's security, unity and prosperity. By developing and guiding Australia's cyber security policy and programs, we work to support a secure and resilient digital economy. We support Australia's position as a world leader for cyber security to shift cyber from a purely technical topic to a whole of nation endeavour. To support and guide our policy response we work across government, businesses, academia and with international partners.
These are non-technical generalist policy roles with opportunity for diverse work, opportunities to grow, develop and gain new skills and experience. There are several vacant positions across the branch. You will work within one of the following sections to address some of the most pressing and emerging cyber and national security challenges for the Australian Government.

We have found individuals who have excelled in policy roles come from diverse careers, for example: communications, executive assistants, roles that required project management, legal, technical, psychology, nursing, program coordination, sales, marketing and business development.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Ability to build and sustain positive relationships, including with government, business and international stakeholders
- Understanding of, or ability to gain understanding of, national security, cyber security or protective security policy
- Understanding of, or ability to gain an understanding of, Australia's statutory, regulatory and policy frameworks relevant to cyber security
- Excellent communication skills.
Duties and responsibilities
You will work in a team, known as a section, within the Cyber Policy and Programs branch to:
- Engage with domestic and international government and businesses stakeholders to support policy development across a number of cyber security initiatives
- Work both autonomously and collaboratively to contribute to key policy initiatives and programs in response to emerging and future cyber security opportunities and threats
- Research the latest cyber security threats and provide analysis to inform new policy to combat these threats
- Interpret these cyber security threats in a broader national security context
- Support the implementation of of the 2023-30 Australian Cyber Security Strategy and Australia's first Cyber Security Act.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
