About our team

 

Cyber & Infrastructure Security | Cyber & Infra Security Centre | Risk Assessment | Various

 

The Risk Assessment Branch is responsible for advising government and industry on national security risks to protect Australia's critical infrastructure. The Branch works with agencies across the National Intelligence Community to develop national security risk advice, responses and actions to mitigate identified risks. We also work closely with critical infrastructure owners and operators across all sectors who best understand their asset and how to protect it.

The Branch is currently recruiting APS6 positions for the following sections:

  • Data Security and Space Risk

  • Telecommunications Security Risk

  • Cross Sector Risk

  • Energy Security Risk

  • Transport Security Risk.

Our ideal candidate

 

  • Experience applying analytical skills and knowledge of methods to synthesise data from a variety of sources relevant to assessing national security risks

  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft a range of policy papers, cabinet submissions, and risk assessment documentation

  • Experience in cultivating and maintaining productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive security uplift, gain market intelligence and inform understanding of risk.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Undertake/oversee the development of national security risk assessments through the Foreign Investment Review Board process and guide team members to develop advice to mitigate risks arising from foreign ownership in Australian critical infrastructure assets

  • Conduct detailed research and apply intelligence and analytical techniques to extract and utilise information from relevant systems and sources

  • Anticipate and address policy challenges, applying sound judgment to refine policy and regulatory options that enhance Australia's framework for critical infrastructure security under the Security of Critical infrastructure Act 2018 and other relevant legislation such as the Telecommunications Act 1997

  • Cultivate and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive security uplift, gain market intelligence and inform understanding of risk

  • Communicate complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including senior executives and external stakeholders.

 

Additional information

 

Recent experience in the application of legislative and regulatory frameworks such as those within the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018 and Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act 1975 will be highly regarded.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
