GM Technology & Major Cap Group | ICT Division | Technology Operations & Support | Program Services

 

The Technology Operations & Support Branch is responsible for supporting and maintaining the Departments ICT infrastructure and software platforms that underpin all Home Affairs applications.

 

The key objectives of the branch are to:

 

  • Deliver the ICT Infrastructure Capital Plan projects through the Technology & Enabling Program (TEP)
  • Maintain the Department's data centres and server rooms
  • Provide 24/7 support for visa processing, risk analytics and alert systems, corporate systems and the Departments classified networks
  • Manage and operate the Australian Secret Network (ASN), Customs Secret Network (CSN), Australian Maritime Identification System (AMIS), Australian Border Force (ABF) vessels corporate ICT environment and Top Secret systems utilised across the Department
  • Manage the Departments end user platforms
  • Manage and operate the network and gateway environments that supports the Department's applications and services
  • Provide technical oversight and governance of the IBM vendor provisioning mainframe and midrange support and services to Portfolio applications
  • Provide enterprise Windows, Virtualisation and Cloud infrastructure platforms that underpin the Department's core IT systems and business applications

 

The Program Services Section plays a critical role in supporting Technology Operations and Support (TOS) Branch by providing program and project management services for ICT infrastructure and software platforms that underpin the Departments operations. In addition, Program Services also provide project management and support for ICT projects undertaken by portfolio agencies that rely on the Departments ICT systems.

Our ideal candidate

 

As our ideal candidate you will have at least 2 years preferred experience in managing ICT infrastructure projects including large refresh project in data centres in metropolitan areas and or ICT communications rooms in regional settings. Our Project Manager will have a strong background in delivering ICT projects within the Australian federal government.

 

They will have a good understanding of government frameworks, procurement processes, and ICT project governance, ensuring compliance with relevant policies, standards, and regulatory requirements. With a proven track record in managing large-scale projects, the successful candidate will excel in planning, risk management, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement to drive successful outcomes in a dynamic and evolving environment.

 

The Project Manager will demonstrate effective communication skills, enabling them to build strong relationships with senior executives, technical teams, and external vendors. They will be adept at managing competing priorities, ensuring project alignment with agency objectives, and fostering a collaborative culture to achieve business transformation goals. Their ability to navigate complexities, negotiate effectively, and provide clear and concise reporting will be critical in delivering high-quality ICT solutions that meet government and stakeholder expectations.

 

The ideal candidate will also bring experience in Agile and traditional project management methodologies, with relevant certifications such as PRINCE2, PMP, or SAFe Agile highly regarded. They will demonstrate a proactive approach to continuous improvement, driving efficiencies in project delivery and championing best practices in ICT project management.

 

A commitment to integrity, accountability, and public sector values will be essential, ensuring the effective delivery of projects that support the department's strategic priorities and broader government initiatives.

Demonstrated ability in using contemporary project management frameworks including, but not limited to:

 

  • PRINCE2 (Practitioner) certification
  • PRINCE2 Agile and/or AGILE PM
  • ITIL (Foundation)

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
