APS5 Senior Border Force Officers employed in the Airport Operations domain work under limited supervision to conduct passenger processing and enforce immigration and customs legislation at the border. They oversee primary line processing using immigration systems and manage physical searches and examinations of people and goods, using x-ray and other technologies. APS5 Senior Border Force Officers (Airport Operations) conduct reactive risk assessments and use questioning to gather intelligence and identify non-compliance.

Some APS5 Senior Border Force Officers (Airport Operations) may lead and conduct secondary clearance activities, including intervention of travellers who pose a risk to the Australian community or do not meet border clearance legislation.

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Maintaining awareness of border threats and the effectiveness of border controls relating to all operational environments
  • Providing accurate and specialised strategic advice on operations to Operations SA Inspectors and contribute to the implementation of national and regional operational initiatives
  • Assisting in the development of tactical responses to maintain border controls including traveller processing, aircraft and vessel clearance including intervention
  • Leading change management and reform, including cultural change
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships and negotiating positive outcomes with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Overseeing the coordination of staff rosters
  • Facilitating staff training and liaising with key stakeholders
  • Sourcing and purchasing items, receiving and inspecting goods (procurement).

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
