The Immigration Clearance & interviewing Training Team within the Command Immigration & Trade Faculty has responsibility for the delivery of:

  • Investigative Interviewing Course
  • Maritime Immigration Clearance course
  • Secondary Immigration Clearance program
  • Considering Visa Cancellation course
  • Visa Cancellation Recertification course
  • Other short courses related to Immigration Clearance.

 

A Senior Instructor (APS6) within the ABF College is responsible for supervising and managing a range of design and delivery requirements for specific training packages across multiple streams of the ABF College. They may lead a team of instructors and be responsible for developing a high performing team that can deliver credible and relevant training through a variety of mediums and learning platforms.

 

Supervisors are required to create and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders within the operational area that their training supports. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that the training delivered by their team is relevant and contemporary, and ensure that it is compliant with legislation, organisational policy and best practice across the organisation.

 

Supervisors provide guidance and their expertise during the training development and evaluation phases and work closely with the operational business areas to ensure training products remain contemporary and relevant. As subject matter experts within their relevant fields it is expected that Senior Instructors will be able to deliver the majority of modules within the training packages they are responsible for and also present as a subject matter expert to support other training programs as required.

 

Supervisors are expected to be experts within their fields, and bring to the ABF College a wealth of operational experience and a desire to support the continuing development of the ABF Workforce. Supervisors must have operational credibility and the ability to influence others by communicating effectively within a training environment.

 

Supervisors model the behaviour and qualities of a Border Force Officer and demonstrate a strong commitment to strengthening the ABF culture and upholding ABF values. Supervisors are also responsible for developing and maintaining these traits in other officers, both within their direct reports and within participant groups.

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Contribute to work area planning and provide advice to the Chief Instructor in the development of national training schedules and demand planning
  • Undertake a leadership role in the design, development, review and continual improvement of specialist training material, curriculum content, learning outcomes and improvement procedures for competency-based training and assessment specific to advanced ABF capabilities and skills
  • Work with autonomy and accountability in interpreting policy and the application of practices and procedures, providing specialist advice to operational areas and management teams
  • Support complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead effective teams, addressing staffing matters early and managing performance issues.

 

Additional information

 

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Training Assessment and Evaluation or be willing to obtain after commencement
  • Current driver's license
  • Ability to undertake interstate travel and work extended hours to support the delivery of training.

 

Desirable

  • Previous experience in training delivery for frontline operational roles
  • 5 years' experience working directly with the Migration Act 1958, preferably in an operational context
  • Previous experience working in Border Clearance, Seaports, Cancellations or Status Resolution roles
  • Previous experience or strong interest in training design and development.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
