Chief Operating Officer Group | Integrity Security & Assurance | Integrity & Professional Standards | Corruption Investigation Section

 

Corruption Investigations Section is responsible for preliminary assessment, investigation management, and reporting on corruption related matters in respect to the Department.

  • Assess and refer corruption matters to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) in accordance with legislation
  • Collaborate with, and support the NACC as the lead agency in joint investigations
  • Support operations of our other law enforcement partners including the Australian Federal Police (AFP)
  • Initiate and conduct investigations into allegations of corruption or allegations of criminal offending (fraud) relative to the Department which have been referred back without NACC oversight or management
  • Conduct criminal investigations relating to corruption into matters that fall outside of the NACC jurisdiction
  • Manage consultation and reporting obligations of the Department for any joint investigations with the NACC.

Duties and responsibilities

 

Under broad guidance, the APS 6 Senior Investigator will:

  • Conduct investigations in relation to internal fraud and corruption in a timely, efficient and effective manor, in accordance with the standards established by the Australian Government Investigation Standards
  • Assist with, and at times leading in, conducting interviews, taking statements, and facilitating other investigative techniques - including the gathering and preparation of briefs of evidence
  • Provide all administrative support to the assigned delegates including, but not limited to, the preparation of investigation plans, investigation reports, critical decision records, Senior Executive Service briefings and other correspondence, as required
  • Identify serious and systemic corruption issues and facilitating the referral of those allegations to the NACC, as required by legislation
  • Provide a high level of support to investigations undertaken by the NACC
  • Undertake and participate in continuous improvement activities relating to the investigative function within I&PS, including; developing, reviewing, evaluating and implementing relevant policies, procedures, processes, tools and best practices
  • Lead and exemplify a healthy and safe working environment, modelling and promoting ethical behaviour and practices consistent with the APS Code of Conduct.

 

Additional information

 

  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Government Investigations (or equivalent) or the ability to obtain mandatory qualifications is required
  • Experience in managing administrative and/or criminal investigations
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Willingness to upgrade Security Clearance if required
  • Maintain the highest levels of ethics and accountability to ensure the professionalism of Integrity and Professional Standards.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
