The Australian Border Force (ABF) is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and customs service, responsible for both operational activities and supporting policy settings and plays a critical role in protecting Australia's national security. Crucial to ABF's work is maintaining the capacity and capability to respond to rapid shifts in ABF's operating environment.
The ABF Work Health and Safety (WHS) Section provides - functional support, coordination, advice and oversight on WHS strategy, processes and procedures, compliance, risk identification and mitigation, and assurance in support of the ABFs evolving and continually maturing health and safety performance against operational and corporate objectives.

Our ideal candidate
We are looking for highly motivated, skilled, enthusiastic and customer-focused individuals to meet current and anticipated APS 6 vacancies within the team. The positions require officers to understand the broader responsibilities and strategic direction of the ABF and the Department of Home Affairs.
The Supervisor ABF WHS is a dynamic role and will see the successful candidate working with a broad range of stakeholders and interpreting and applying WHS principles and practices to ABF's diverse activities and its geographically dispersed audience. This role will be suited to someone who enjoys working as part of a small team and providing advice and support to others.
The Section is seeking a candidate with strong time management, workload prioritisation and communication skills, someone who is open to challenges and who is committed to uplifting WHS practice.
As an ABF Supervisor within the team, the occupants of these positions will be highly responsive, self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal, organisational and teamwork skills. The occupant will possess the ability to work in a dynamic environment, possess sound judgement and the ability to communicate and provide advice across a wide range of stakeholders.
Duties and responsibilities

Interpreting and applying a range of legislation, guidelines, policy and procedures, and providing detailed technical and professional advice

Supporting ABF operational workers, their supervisors and managers, policy and support area's in responding to and managing their WHS obligations, through building and maintaining professional relationships

Contribute to the development, maintenance and implementation of WHS policies, procedures, processes, projects and the strategic direction of the WHS section

Support and or conduct incident investigations to aid in the identification of gaps in systems and processes

Support the development of risk plans across operational domains and their activities; and promoting and supporting a culture of achievement, excellence and integrity.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
