The Classified Systems Delivery Section (CSD) is responsible for the delivery and support of ICT systems at the secret classification, for use by the Department of Home Affairs and a range of external stakeholders. These include numerous Australian Government Departments, New Zealand Government Departments, and other Commonwealth agencies.
 

The CSD Section is a multidisciplinary team comprised of resources across numerous ICT disciplines, including server, network, compute, storage, cryptographic, deployable, and desktop solutions. It also operates the ASN Service Desk, network and close support services and manages the Department's Secret and Top Secret COMSEC Accounts.
 

CSD supports a range of critical government capabilities, including counter terrorism initiatives, law enforcement activities, Home Affairs maritime platforms, and national crisis response, such as the continuation of Executive Government during a national emergency or disaster.

The Systems Engineer assures availability of the platform through:
 

  • Leading a team of technical specialists and working collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external platform stakeholders
  • With proven high level of technical ICT skill set, managing services and operation of Windows, RedHat Linux and VMware based technology stacks and, where directed, support to relevant projects
  • Guidance and mentoring of CSD Section staff, managing their workload, priorities and professional development
  • Representing the Section, provision of technical advice, and enhancing the perception of CSD section and TOSB within the Department and with Whole-of-Government SECRET ICT users
  • Contributing to a positive work culture within CSD Section, TOSB and TCMG.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Manages and assures the availability, capacity and performance of Windows, RedHat Linux and VMware infrastructure and applications
  • Leads, contributes and participates in the resolution of platform incidents and problems, management of platform assets and changes, and continuous service improvement in accordance with Home affairs ITSM practice and processes
  • Leads or supports platform knowledge management within CSD, TOSB and TCMG, including but not limited to preparing and improving knowledge articles, standard operating procedures and other technical documentation relevant to platform operations)
  • Develops and manages platform stakeholder relationships to enable effective collaboration and service operations within CSD, TOSB, TCMG and in co-operation with ICT vendors
  • Accountable for the delivery of business as usual (BAU) and project outcomes in the Platforms ICT infrastructure area, while providing advice, managing and supporting a hybrid APS/contractor highly skilled ICT Platforms technical team.

 

Additional information

 

Highly desirable role experience & qualifications include:

  • ITIL V4
  • ITSM experience
  • PowerShell scripting
  • Experience across Windows Server and Applications (e.g. Exchange, SQL), Red Hat Server and VMWare suite
  • Basic F5 Load Balancer management.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
