The position is responsible for overseeing the well-being of the ABF DDP breeding colony. This position assists in canine welfare, breeding activities, the development and care of breeding stock within the DDP colony and maintaining the effectiveness of the foster carer program. The role of this position is to coordinate all breeding activities under the general direction of the Supervisor Breeding and Development. The position will provide on the job training, mentoring and leadership to Canine Breeding Officers. It will allocate duties on a daily priority basis ensuring canine welfare and juvenile development regimes are implemented. The occupant of this position will liaise regularly with members of the general public, Australian and overseas agencies and other members of the DDP as required.

The Canine Breeding/Colony Management Team Leader is required to possess the following characteristics relating to their skills, work experience and personal attributes:

Duties and responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of the DDP breeding plan. This entails the identification of suitable breeding stock and the frequency and timing of matings
- Managing the colony breeding lines to ensure genetic diversity/ improvement and colony sustainability
- Ensure the well-being of DDP canine stock including oversight of nutrition, animal husbandry and kennel management practices
- Coordinating pre and ongoing health screening medicals for breeding stock
- Oversee data collection and input into IWDR for current breeding stock profiles, health and performance.
Additional information
Desirable Qualifications
Education, and/or practical experience, in the following areas:
- Canine physiology, husbandry and nutrition
- Canine genetics, reproduction and breeding management including experience in matings, whelpings and post-natal care
- Canine health
- Kennel hygiene and management practices
- Juvenile dog development.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC)
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
