The Digital Experience (DEX) section plays a key role in the delivery of digital transformation initiatives to support the government's strategic priorities. DEX provides enterprise services in user experience (UX) design, digital accessibility and mobile app development for the Home Affairs Portfolio.

We are seeking an experienced leader with a passion for mentoring and developing a talented team of UX designers and accessibility specialists.

 

You have a strong background in human-centred design and believe in the strength of good relationships and collaboration to deliver engaging and inclusive digital experiences.

 

You are a strategic thinker who can advocate for UX best practices, grow the team's capability, and drive innovative solutions that balance user needs and business goals.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Lead, mentor and support a team of UX/UI designers and accessibility specialists to create digital experiences that are user-centred and inclusive
  • Engage and collaborate with business clients and stakeholders to deliver UX services for digital transformation projects
  • Manage team priorities, work allocation, and ensure quality and consistency of UX deliverables
  • Grow a trusted UX capability with a culture of collaboration and continual improvement
  • Promote the value of UX and advocate for human-centred design practices to be embedded in the delivery of digital products and services.

 

Additional information

 

Essential capabilities:

  • Proven experience in leading and managing UX teams with the ability to foster collaboration and staff development
  • Expertise in human-centred design practices such as user research, UX/UI design, usability testing and digital accessibility
  • Demonstrated experience in managing team workload, priorities, and opportunities for process improvement
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to advocate for UX to diverse stakeholders, including those unfamiliar with UX
  • Highly developed stakeholder management skills with a proven record of building trusted working relationships.

 

Desirable capabilities

  • Knowledge and experience in working with the Digital Service Standard
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Experience working in an Agile delivery framework
  • Experience working in complex or large-scale digital transformation programs.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
