About the Department of Home Affairs: 
The Department is responsible for central coordination, and strategy and policy leadership in relation to cyber and critical infrastructure resilience and security, immigration, border security and management, counter-terrorism, the protection of our sovereignty, citizenship and social cohesion.

The Department implements a strategically coordinated approach to the cyber security and resilience of all Australians through the appointment of a Cyber Security Coordinator and continues to enable rapid responses to threats of foreign interference through the dedicated Counter Foreign Interference Coordinator. Additionally, the Department contributes to Australia’s prosperity and unity through the management and delivery of the migration, humanitarian and refugee programs. 

The Department also promotes social cohesion through multicultural programs, providing settlement services and through managing and conferring citizenship.

Overview of the Branch and Section:

The Foundation Capability Faculty of the ABF College responsibilities include:

  • Delivery of Border Force Officer Recruit Trainee (BFORT) courses

  • Delivery of Foundational Border Operations vocational training, including accreditation and re-accreditation training of core skills for operational Border Force Officers.

 

Strategies to deliver the above include, but are not limited to:

  • Formal face to face training and accreditation

  • Development and delivery of training using non-traditional techniques that maximise the use of technology and support adult based learning

  • Implementation and oversight of a mentoring program.

 

About the role:
The Learning and Development Officer Trainer (Trainer) within the ABF College is responsible for all facets of delivering specific training packages and works under limited direction. This includes, but is not limited to, engagement with key stakeholders, the delivery of training programs and subsequent evaluation and continuous improvement of training products. 

 

The Trainer position supports a range of learning solutions in the ABF including coordination of staff delivering administrative and logistical support to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of training. The role will include course management and resolving participant queries and issues including performance management. The occupant delivers training modules from the suite of training programs managed by the ABF College.

Specific duties/responsibilities:
The role is accountable and responsible for the management and delivery of a range of activities including but not limited to:

  • Delivery, management and continual improvement of ABF College training programs to audiences of various sizes

  • Manage a team of BFORT Recruits when delivering classroom phase of the BFORT program 

  • Assist in setting priorities and ensure quality of outputs for the work area

  • Support complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve work area and agency goals

  • Develop and/or manage stakeholder relationships and provide advice where necessary

  • Facilitate business support activities for team and other work areas, identifying risks and determining appropriate courses of action to meet stakeholder needs

  • Coordinate resources, monitor and record all training.

 

Role requirements/qualifications:
 Mandatory:

  • Certificate IV in Training, Assessment and Evaluation (TAE) or the ability to obtain one

  • Trainer and Assessor skill sets.

 

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in training delivery and operational environments

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt and respond to new challenges in a changing environment.
