About our team

 

DS Executive | Executive Coordination | Performance Governance & Inquiries 

 

The Performance, Governance and Inquiries Branch is a central point of support and oversight for the Department, providing strategic advice and guidance to the Executive and relevant Portfolio Ministers and consists of the following teams:

  • The Enterprise, Planning and Reporting Section is responsible for ensuring key planning and reporting processes are embedded in the Department's governance functions with clear lines of responsibilities.
  • The Inquiries Section provides a centralised function that coordinates input from across the Department to support comprehensive parliamentary and public inquiries. The section also uplifts SES readiness for Senate Estimates by anticipating critical topics and driving targeted preparation.
  • The Enterprise Governance Section provides direct support to the senior strategic decision-making and is responsible for managing the Governance Framework, thereby supporting the operational and strategic vision for the Department
  • The Evaluation and Impact Analysis Section is responsible for designing and implementing activities to uplift the Department's evaluation practices, including capability initiatives and evaluation advice. It is also responsible for engagement with other Commonwealth agencies on the impacts of new policies and programs.
  • The Enterprise Risk Section is responsible for ensuring that effective risk management is embedded within the Department and provides advice and support to the Chief Risk Officer and staff across the organisation in identifying, assessing and reporting on their risks.
  • The Strategic Risks Section works with business areas to support them in identifying and managing their strategic and emerging risks and building risk management capability and culture across the department.
  • The Child Wellbeing Strategy and Capability Section supports the department to embed children's safety and wellbeing at the centre of our values, actions and practice by building organisational and operational capability in line with Australia's domestic and child-related commitments.

Duties and responsibilities

 

All roles within PGI Branch provide a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of the broader work of the whole Home Affairs Portfolio, including border policy and security, emergency planning and management, counter-terrorism and cyber and transport security. This knowledge and understanding provides invaluable insights that can be utilised throughout your career within the Home Affairs Portfolio. Specific responsibilities will vary across the positions but may include:

  • Developing and maintaining productive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including Ministers' Offices and the Senior Executive, to achieve outcomes and support the flow of information across stakeholder groups
  • Providing advice, guidance and technical knowledge to key stakeholders on strategic objectives and enterprise performance to support informed, risk-based decision-making and statutory obligations
  • Supporting the department's high-level governance committees and ensuring  the delivery of critical governance advice and support to leadership teams, maintaining strong strategic planning to proactively shape and coordinate tasks and communication deliverables for Ministers and Senior Executives
  • Contributing to the development of the department's Corporate Plan and Annual Report
  • Supporting the department and broader portfolio's holistic and proactive engagement with external inquiries and reviews, including coordinating responses to requests, monitoring and briefing on relevant activity, and providing hearing support for Portfolio Executives
  • Identifying and providing advice on emerging risks, including their implications for the department's strategic direction, and support change management across the organisation

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

​The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.

 
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
