The Australian Border Force (ABF) is an operational agency within the Home Affairs Portfolio. The ABF is responsible for operational activity that supports the Australian Government's border protection, investigations, compliance, detention and enforcement functions.
Within the ABF, Civil Maritime Sustainment Branch (CMSB) is responsible for the capability management and sustainment of a fleet of air and marine surveillance, patrol and response assets. Our capabilities include ocean going patrol vessels, shallow water and coastal response vessels and contracted surveillance aircraft.
The CMSB operates in a complex, challenging and changing environment that is characterised by a continual high tempo of operations.

We are looking for someone who is reliable, professional and committed to continuous improvement. Someone who is comfortable adapting to change and managing ambiguity, demonstrates initiative and sound judgement; and possess strong interpersonal skills, with a positive "can-do" attitude.
Our ideal candidate would have demonstrated experience in financial management of government contracts, including budget oversight and financial reporting. and a strong understanding of Commonwealth financial frameworks including the PGPA Act, CPRs, and ABF financial governance policies. Experience in providing support to governance bodies and risk management processes would also be valuable.
Duties and responsibilities
- Managing and undertaking financial administration of the work area, including assisting with managing budgets, monitoring, forecasting and processing accrual journals
- Managing, coordinating and conducting complex, high-level data entry and data retrieval activities including support of practice contract management and procurement processes across the branch
- Initiating, building and maintaining strong, productive working relationships with key stakeholders across internal and external networks including assistance to secretariat functions for governance meetings and meetings with external stakeholders
- Contributing to change management to align business practices and processes with departmental strategic goals and objectives, this includes continuity to divisional and branch governance, contingency planning, and risk management processes and procedures
- Contributing to management of financial reporting processes including accruals, forecasting, and budget variance analysis using EasySAP and ABF financial systems
- Assisting in preparation of formal financial and contractual documentation, and briefing materials, assisting the team with administration and support for contract variations, and extensions in accordance with legislative and ABF policy frameworks.
Additional information
Required qualifications
- Certificate IV in Business Administration or similar
- Certificate IV in Procurement and Contracting or similar.
Desirable skills
- Attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders
- Willingness to undertake further relevant training
- Experience in administration, governance, finance, contract management and/or procurement is highly desirable.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
