The WA Detention Status Resolution team based at Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre is part of the national Status Resolution Network, delivering targeted services to people seeking to resolve their immigration status while in held detention. The team contributes to the integrity of Australia's migration program by facilitating immigration outcomes for non-citizens, in a timely and lawful manner, while managing risk to the community. These non-citizens are often at the end of their immigration pathway, and can fall into higher risk categories with vulnerabilities or character concerns that need to be intensively managed.

Our ideal candidate

 

  • Will work under the direction of an EL2 Director to lead and build an experienced team to deliver a range of outputs.
  • Will demonstrate strong management of the team in order to meet business goals and operational targets in a highly complex and sensitive environment.
  • Will be familiar or able to familiarise yourself with relevant migration legislation and policies to guide your team and from time to time use it in conjunction with your own skill and judgement to make complex decisions.
  • Will establish, build and maintain strong relationships and networks with colleagues and stakeholders, to assist in resolving issues and mitigating emerging risks collaboratively.
  • Will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of their work area's priorities and understanding of the legislation, policies and procedures that govern and guide their operations. They recognise situations of high level complexity and sensitivity that may require escalation, and interpret and analyse issues, resolving those within their remit.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Identify and drive innovation and change in workplace practices and business strategies.
  • Manage team resources whilst providing ongoing support to APS6 Managers through coaching and guidance, to monitor workflows, caseloads, staff performance, allocation of work and identifying opportunities for training and development for staff.
  • Apply strategic knowledge to communicate and effect policy, legislation and framework changes that will impact status resolution and Bridging Visa E decision making.
  • Initiate, build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across internal and external networks and conduct regular engagement and collaboration to achieve work objectives.
  • Analyse and report on team performance including caseload reviews, dashboards, detention review committee (DRC) meetings and other metrics whilst acting as an escalation point for highly complex or sensitive cases.

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Obtain and maintain the required Baseline AGSVA security clearance
  • Possess a valid Western Australia Drivers License. From time to time you may be required to drive a departmental fleet vehicle.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
