National Operations | Customs Compliance Enforcement & Targeting | Border Targeting Branch | Virtual Targeting Centre

 

Targeting Branch delivers the Australian Border Force's (ABF) border targeting capability which:

 

  • Defines targeting as 'the process of identifying, selecting, and prioritising targets and matching the appropriate response to them with consideration to operational requirements and capabilities
  • Through an enhanced and contemporary targeting program will build a world class targeting capability, leveraging technology, information, and people to make the Australian border hostile to infiltration.

 

The Virtual Targeting Centre (VTC) team leads an innovative approach to targeting working closely with internal and external stakeholders, leveraging the full suite of operational and regulatory capabilities to identify threats in the supply chain and deliver multilateral operational outcomes.

 

The team is a highly capable, multi-disciplinary team that detect and disrupt criminality occurring within Australia's international cargo supply chain. The team takes a thematic approach to targeting, actively contribute to the building of international networks and facilitating referrals from onshore and offshore networks.

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Support ABF wide operations, particularly focused on a trusted insider methodology. 
  • Lead, negotiate deliver innovative data led solutions towards the ABF Targeting Objectives.
  • Lead and negotiate with multilateral partners, including Industry, domestic and international Law enforcement and Customs agencies.
  • Responsible for operational liaison and engagement with other line areas that will contribute to ABF Targeting operations, primarily through an active involvement in regional prioritisation and planning forums, such as the Regional Operations Coordination framework.
  • Engage with local partner agencies, primarily federal and state police, to support joint agency operations focussed on criminality in the supply chain.

  • This role requires a high level of stakeholder engagement, so strong negotiation skills and ability to achieve operational outcomes will be required.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
