National Operations | Operational Coordination & Planning | Coordination and Planning | ABOC Command

 

The Australian Border Operations Centre (ABOC) Command is responsible for providing a real-time view of regional and national operations, incidents and events across the border continuum. The ABOC unifies the planning, execution, coordination and situational awareness of ABF activities and operations through leveraging all operational command elements located on the ABOC Watch floor as well as interoperability across Whole of Government. The ABOC also leads the rapid stand up and continuity of effort for the ABF response to major incidents. The ABOC Command supports the increase of efficiencies within the ABF through enhancing capability, systems, and promoting national consistency for operations in order to support the safe and secure movement of people and goods across the entire border continuum. The ABOC also includes the ABOC Surge, Crisis Response and Deployment, Pre-Border Travel Operations (PBTO), and Capability and Regional Coordination sections.

The ideal candidate(s) will be required to have an understanding of the border threat environment and undertake work activities with an awareness of the possible impact on strategic, political and operational outcomes for the ABF, Home Affairs and broader Government.

 

You will have superior communication skills, sound judgement, political acumen and a demonstrated ability to liaise with, coordinate and support multiple stakeholders

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

The Border Force Supervisor will supervise a team and is responsible for the delivery of operational objectives through the coordination, prioritisation and delivery of activities and response actions nationally, consistent with the ABF's operational priorities.

 

The Border Force Supervisor will be required to maintain an awareness of ABF operational activities and be responsive to any changes in priorities and posture. They will need to work collaboratively with members of ABF, the Department, regions and external agencies, to ensure the appropriate resources, personnel and equipment are available to support response actions.

 

The Border Force Supervisor is required to train, develop and mentor team members and assist in identifying career and development needs for them self and team members.

 

These are non-shift positions. This process will be used to fill current Border Force Supervisor vacancies, and to establish an order of merit to fill any potential non-shift vacancies over the coming 18 months within the ABOC Command. The required skills and capabilities at the Supervisor level will vary slightly across roles.

  • A high level of technical, operational or policy knowledge and experience negotiating favourable outcomes with other work areas.
  • Knowledge in immigration systems and the processes associated with immigration border clearance, alert management, and visa and citizenship legislation, policy and operational procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and reporting requirements, Australian and International standards, quality assurance procedures and best practice models.
  • Understanding of Command, Control and Coordination (C3) Framework and Operational Planning.
  • Display excellent written communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate complex ideas and outcomes in a clear, concise and logical manner.
  • Ability to produce quality outcomes through robust research and/or collaboration.
  • Ability to identify, monitor and manage emerging issues and ability to respond clearly, comprehensively and quickly to urgent requests.
  • ABOC PBTO and Surge, Crisis Response and Deployment non-shift positions are predominantly work from work roles, and are in place to provide vital functions to ensure the ongoing operational success of the department.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
