About our team
DC National Operations | Maritime Border Command & OSB | MBC Deputy Commander | MBC Plans
Maritime Border Command (MBC) is Australia’s lead civil maritime security authority, charged with securing Australia’s vast maritime border. We are enabled by both the Australian Border Force (ABF) and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to protect Australia’s national interests by responding with assigned forces to undertake civil maritime security operations to deter, detect, respond to and prevent illegal activities in the Australian Maritime Domain.
MBC acts as the convening authority for Australia’s partner agencies’ efforts to mitigate, or eliminate, the risks posed in our area of operations across the eight civil maritime security threats. We have regular contact with over 30 partners across State, Territory and Commonwealth Governments, work with industry to enable our response, and engage regularly with international partners.
The MBC Plans Directorate ensures efficient and effective deliberate operational planning to generate effects against the eight civil maritime security threats, and measures the effectiveness of MBC operations through performance reviews and analysis. MBC Plans foster long-term partnerships with client agencies, service suppliers, international counterpart organisations and with the whole-of-government community to ensure that their requests for operational effects in the maritime domain are assessed and prioritised in a coordinated and defensible manner.
