Non-ongoing or temporary employment opportunities may be offered on a full-time, part-time or intermittent/irregular (casual) basis depending on business needs and requirements. 

 

Non-ongoing employment for a specified term may be offered for an initial period of up to 12 months, with the possibility to extend for a further 6 months, for a total maximum period of 18 months.

 

Applicants suitable for the role but not offered the position for the current vacancy may be placed in a merit list or pool to fill similar vacancies for up to 18 months anywhere in ACT.

The Australian Border Force (ABF) is seeking motivated and professional individuals to join our workforce as Irregular and Intermittent Employees (IIEs). These casual APS2 positions provide essential support to frontline operational teams during periods of increased passenger and cargo movements across Australia's borders.

 

IIEs will be primarily employed at Canberra International Airport, assisting ACT Border Clerance team during peak arrival and departure periods. The role contributes to the efficient processing of travellers and supports border operations to maintain the security and integrity of Australia's border.

 

As a frontline representative of the ABF, you will be required to wear the ABF uniform, maintain a professional appearance, and uphold the values and standards of the organisation while interacting with members of the public and international visitors.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist with passenger processing activities at Canberra International Airport
  • Provide administrative and operational support to frontline teams
  • Deliver professional and courteous customer service to travellers and stakeholders
  • Support operational requirements during peak periods, including outside standard business hours
  • Work effectively within a dynamic team environment while adhering to established policies and procedures.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

​The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.

 
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
