The Traveller Systems Section is responsible for the design, build and operation of traveller and border systems which are critical to the Australian Border Force for the effective management and clearance of Australia’s border. The section collaborates closely with the Australian Border Force (ABF) and other internal and external partners to deliver high-impact, user-centred digital solutions.

Our ideal candidate
- 10+ years experience within the ICT sector, preferably leading teams that design, deliver and maintain ICT systems in a highly complex environment requiring 24x7 availability.
- Demonstrated strong people management and negotiation skills, and the ability to create enduring professional working relationships within ICT Division, with our client (the Australian Border Force) and the ICT industry.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and oral, to communicate progress, issues and risks to senior executives
- Demonstrated budget and risk management skills and experience.
Duties and responsibilities
- Oversee and lead teams that design, deliver and maintain ICT systems that facilitate the effective movement of international travellers across Australia's borders
- Manage competing priorities, risks and issues whilst delivering against our client’s business requirements
- Mentor and nurture staff whilst promoting healthy and positive workplace behaviours and cultures.
Additional information
The role requires well-developed stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills and an ability to establish and maintain key strategic internal and external networks. A client-centric focus, whilst balancing the needs of ICT Division and Cyber security makes this a challenging role. The ability to address client needs in a timely and cost effective manner is essential.
The role operates under broad direction to deliver quality outcomes for the Traveller Systems Section and requires the management, coaching and development of a team that not only develops new solutions, but supports systems on a 24 x 7 basis.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
