About our team
DS Executive | Data & Economic Analysis Centre | Economics & Analysis
We are a small team of economic specialists working across the Department to provide evidence based economic analysis, forecasting and modelling in support of organisational priorities. The topics we cover are broad and unique such as immigration, skills, international students, national security, cyber, and social cohesion, macro and international economics, and goods and trade.

Our ideal candidate
- Demonstrated leadership, knowledge and experience working on applied economic analysis including forecasting, research and modelling
- Proficient in using quantitative and qualitative methods, economic modelling, and data interpretation to support evidence-based decision-making
- Strong track record of delivering high-impact economic advice that shapes public policy outcomes
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior economists, and influencing senior stakeholders across government and externally
- Exceptional ability to communicate complex economic concepts clearly to non-technical audiences, including ministers, executives, and the public.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide evidence based economic analysis, forecasting and modelling in support of organisational priorities
- Advise the Portfolio Ministers and Executive on the economic implications of policy and programs
- Successfully manage competing and complex priorities in a function that is in high demand
- Represent the Department in appropriate external forums and maintain networks with other Government stakeholders
- Motivate and manage team performance, and addressing potential barriers to success.

Required qualifications
Qualifications in economics, statistics or other relevant disciplines will be considered.
Desirable skills
Proficiency in analytical programming languages (python, R and/or SQL) is highly desirable.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
