Duties and responsibilities
- Provide strong leadership to the Systems Accounting team and provide advice to the Director to determine the strategic direction of the financial system and translating this into operational priorities
- Prepare complex advice relating to financial systems accounting practices or financial operational impacts and lead continuous financial improvement process initiative that contribute to the development of effective and efficient financial processes in the Department
- Provide advice on the impacts business process changes have on the financial system to stakeholders and the Executive
- Anticipate and assess the impact of changes in Government financial policy on the financial system and initiate and contribute to appropriate responses
- Manage or undertake ad hoc tasks of a trouble-shooting nature where accounting or financial system issues arise
Additional information
Applicants must have a good working knowledge of the components of SAP, including the Financial Modules.
The following skills and experience are highly desirable:
- Project management skills and experience
- Analytical skill to understand business issues and to and consider solutions objectively
- Experience in leading a team in a changing environment
- Experience in implementing financial system changes and related business process change
- Experience managing the competing needs of stakeholders to reach an agreed solution.
The following qualifications are highly desirable:
- A degree in finance, accounting, public policy, public administration, law, economics, data science, information technology or other relevant qualifications
- Accounting qualifications (CA or CPA).

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
