Chief Operating Officer Group | Strategy Digital & Data | Architecture Design & Security | Technology and Security Architecture

 

The Architecture, Design and Security (ADS) Branch is located within the Strategy, Digital and Data Division and is responsible for setting the strategic architecture direction for the Department, enabling alignment between long-term strategies, feasibility and business needs. The ADS Branch works closely with business units and other stakeholders to provide guidance and support architecture design, delivery, governance and sustainment decisions.

 

The Technology and Security Architecture section operates within the broader context of the ADS Branch, defines and guides the Department's core technology and security foundations.

 

The section sets architecture strategies, roadmaps, design direction, decision support and governance for core technology platforms, IT infrastructure and cyber security; ensuring technology is secure, aligned with business outcomes, and built for agility and long-term value. The section drives strategic planning, defines the enterprise target state, and enables informed investment decisions.

 

The Technology Architecture defines the foundational and enabling technology capabilities that support business IT systems across the Department. This includes infrastructure (facilities, compute, storage, network), middleware, databases, software development and deployment platforms, and collaboration platforms.

Our ideal candidate

 

We are seeking a dynamic, passionate and determined technology architecture professional with a strong record for infrastructure design outcomes who has:

 

  • Subject Matter Expert in one or more core IT infrastructure domain, with proven ability to analyse emerging trends, assess impacts and opportunities, develop strategy, standards, and guidelines
  • Proven ability to provide high quality to senior executives to shape strategic thinking, develop target state and roadmaps, translate business and technical requirements into practical reference architecture, design, and operating models
  • Proven ability to provide architecture design and governance services for technology deployment and use
  • Proactively develop and improve architecture process and frameworks, apply best practices and collaborate within and outside their immediate work area
  • Deep technical experience and knowledge so as able to collaborate with a range of stakeholders, communicate conflicting ideas, and sustain robust conversations to contest design decisions.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

The EL2 Technology Architect will be responsible for:

 

  • Defining, developing, and leading the vision, strategy, target state, roadmap, and decision support for one or more infrastructure capabilities (Facilities, Storage, Compute, Network, enabling Platforms)
  • Provide high quality advice to senior stakeholders and contribute to the decision support and wider strategic planning of the Department ensuring alignment with best practices, cost optimisation and business goals
  • Engaging with Subject Matter Experts to support organizational outcomes, and for designing, Developing, and/or leading appropriate architectural artefacts
  • Drive innovation and extend Technology Architecture frameworks and governance processes
  • Advanced specialist and professional knowledge to provide design assurance, fit for purpose integration, and ensure adherence with architectural strategy, principles, and practices.

 

Additional information

 

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or field or equivalent experience and industry recognised certifications will be highly regarded.

 

The successful candidate will have:

 

  • Demonstrated ability and extensive experience with infrastructure architecture across a wide range of technology domains such as datacentres, computer hardware, infrastructure platforms, networking systems, storage, surveillance and communication systems, and enabling platforms within an enterprise ICT environment commensurate with Home Affairs
  • Knowledge in Cloud technology and integration architecture is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to develop architectural frameworks, governance processes, and understanding of industry trends and emerging technologies associated with architecture disciple
  • Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement across ICT and business stakeholders including providing quality advice and decision support to senior executives.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
