The Strategic Policy Division provides cross-cutting advice that shapes high-level policy outcomes and drives the strategic direction of the Department. Our focus is on providing senior executives and ministers with integrated, forward-looking advice that tackles long-term strategic challenges and seizes emerging opportunities for the Portfolio.

 

The Asia and Global & Multilateral Asia Branches facilitate engagement with counterpart governments to further the Portfolio's international priorities through programmes of bilateral and multilateral engagements. The Intelligence Governance and Engagement Branch is responsible for delivering NIC agency strategic intelligence products and advice, intelligence training and oversight, engagement and coordination and policy to the Department. Strategy Branch engages across the Portfolio and with external government and non-government partners to develop integrated future-oriented approaches to significant cross-cutting challenges. Collectively, the division works to build and enhance the department's strategic policy capability; support and inform the strategic direction of the department; and ensure that outcomes of intelligence and international partnerships inform and contribute towards the portfolios strategic objectives.

What you’ll do

 

The Executive Officer will provide a high level of administrative and strategic support which includes but is not limited to:

 

  • providing high-level administrative support to the Deputy Secretary / First Assistant Secretary and other senior leaders including:
    • actioning and/or delegating the Deputy Secretary's / First Assistant Secretary's correspondence to ensure timely and effective business operations
    • working closely and collaboratively with the Deputy Secretary's / First Assistant Secretary's Executive Assistant to ensure priority matters are actioned appropriately;
  • provide high level strategic advice to the Deputy Secretary / First Assistant Secretary and other senior leaders on group matters;
  • providing secretariat support where required;
  • coordinating and/or preparing complex and/or sensitive correspondence, briefing for meetings, corporate documentation, submissions, speeches, talking points, research papers and other strategic communication and correspondence;
  • critically analysing complex issues and undertake high quality research;
  • contribute to the delivery of strategic planning, coordination, implementation, and execution of a range of programs and projects
  • Identify, report and mitigate risks and issues of concern, and escalate if required
  • establishing, maintaining and facilitating interatcions to build productive working relationships with, and providing a high level of service to:
    • members of the Senior Executive
    • the Offices of the Minister's for Home Affairs
    • staff at all levels across the department
    • senior officers in external agencies and organisations;
  • liaising with internal and external stakeholders to build and maintain a positive and collaborative culture;
  • representing the department at inter-departmental meetings and at conferences and seminars; and
  • acting as the principal point of contact on issues for the Deputy Secretary / First Assistant Secretary as required.

What you’ll gain from the experience

 

This process is being used to fill an Executive Officer role. During your time in this role you will have the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of strategic planning, coordination, implementations and execution of a range of programs and projects, and establish and maintain working relations with senior executive and support staff at all levels across the Department.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

​The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.

 
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
