About our team
National Cyber Security Coord
The National Office of Cyber Security (NOCS) works to support the National Cyber Security Coordinator (the Coordinator) in driving forward the necessary work to ensure Australia is best positioned to respond to the opportunities and threats of the digital age.
The Coordinator leads on:
- The coordination of responses to major cyber incidents
- Whole of government cyber incident preparedness efforts
- The strengthening of Commonwealth cyber security capability.
The Coordinator, through the NOCS, provides strategic direction and oversight for the Department of Home Affairs on work programs for cyber security policy development across the whole of government. This includes programs under the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy, the hardening of Australian Government systems and working with industry and critical infrastructure owners and operators to build a cyber-resilient Australia.

Duties and responsibilities
The Executive Assistant (EA) reports directly to the National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC) and is accountable, under limited direction, to perform and achieve a wide-range of complex administrative support work within a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. This is a position of trust that requires sound judgement and exemplary levels of personal integrity, sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion.
The nature of the National Office of Cyber Security means that the Executive Assistant is responsible for organising and coordinating their own, the executive's and potentially others' workflow, making decisions using good judgement, expertise and knowledge, and seeking guidance if required on a wide range of complex issues relevant to the remit of the National Cyber Security Coordinator.
The APS6 EA is required to share information/expertise, develop objectives for short-term tasks and contribute to strategic planning for longer-term initiatives. They:
- Set work priorities and contribute to business improvement strategies and change in the workplace
- Are responsible for building network capacity through mentoring, regular meetings and encouraging career development of junior EAs in their area
- Establish and foster relationships with stakeholders to achieve work area and organisational goals
- Anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC)
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
