Chief Operating Officer Group
The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic and national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.
Executive Officers (EO) provide administrative services, strategic and operational support to Senior Executive Service (SES) Officers on a wide range of issues affecting the Portfolio, the Department and the Australian Border Force (ABF). They are required to maintain a strategic focus to identify risks and issues, and ensure the business area's work is aligned with departmental and portfolio objectives.
There are two Executive Officer roles available - an EL2 supporting the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and and EL1 supporting First Assistant Secretary People Division (FAS PD).
The Executive Officers report directly to the SES officers (COO and FAS PD) and are responsible for the delivery of high level support and strategic advice. The Executive Officers works as part of a small team within a complex and fast paced environment. These are positions of trust that require sound judgement and exemplary levels of personal integrity, sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion.

Duties and responsibilities
The Executive Officer provides administrative and strategic support across all areas of COO including but not limited to:
- High-level administrative support and advice to the SES officers including identification of emerging issues with possible strategic, political or operational implications.
- Establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with, and provide a high level of service to:
- Senior Executives within the Group, and across the department/ABF
- the Office of the Secretary
- the Offices of the Ministers for Home Affairs
- senior officers in external agencies and organisations
- Managing, coordinating and preparing a large volume of complex, sensitive and/or high risk communications, including board papers and agendas, briefings, speeches, media responses and submissions.
- Reviewing high-level committee papers to identify significant operational and strategic impacts on the Group's work program and coordinate input across the Group to enable the COO to be briefed accordingly.
- Providing quality assurance of outgoing communications for accuracy, relevance of information and impacts on other business units within the Group and where relevant, department and key external relationships.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
