National Cyber Security Coord | National Office Of Cyber Security

 

The National Office of Cyber Security (NOCS) works to support the National Cyber Security Coordinator (the Coordinator) and the Deputy National Cyber Security Coordinator (Deputy) in driving forward the necessary work to ensure Australia is best positioned to respond to the opportunities and threats of the digital age.

 

The Coordinator leads on:

 

  • The coordination of responses to major cyber incidents 
  • Whole of government cyber incident preparedness efforts 
  • The strengthening of Commonwealth cyber security capability.

 

The Coordinator, through the NOCS, provides strategic direction and oversight for the Department of Home Affairs on work programs for cyber security policy development across the whole of government. This includes programs under the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy, the hardening of Australian Government systems and working with industry and critical infrastructure owners and operators to build a cyber-resilient Australia.

 

To support the Coordinator, the Deputy oversees the day to day activities of the National Office of Cyber Security, providing strategic direction for and oversight of work programs for cyber security policy development, preparedness initiatives across government and industry, and leading deterrence activities. The position deputises the National Cyber Security Coordinator and has oversight and accountability for the Cyber Security Preparedness and Response Branch along with four other sections. The position is focused on organisational compliance and maturity, enhanced capabilities, culture uplift and advancing inter-governmental and industry relationships.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex cybersecurity issues and provide practical, actionable recommendations
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports, briefings, and correspondence for senior leaders
  • Experience working in cyber security, information security, or technology policy, with an understanding of national and international cyber security frameworks
  • Stakeholder engagement experience, including the ability to liaise effectively with internal teams, government agencies, industry partners, and other key stakeholders
  • A proactive, team-oriented approach to problem solving, with the ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

The Executive Officer (EO) reports directly to the Chief of Staff and is responsible for the delivery of high-level support and advice to the National Cyber Security Coordinator and National Office of Cyber Security. The Executive Officer works as part of a small team within a complex and fast-paced environment. This is a position of trust that requires sound judgement and exemplary levels of personal integrity, sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion.

 

The nature of the National Office of Cyber Security means that the Executive Officer will often have to engage in policy discussions and provide advice on a wide range of complex issues relevant to the remit of the National Cyber Security Coordinator.rity Coordinator.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
