The Audit and Assurance Branch is responsible for delivering audit and assurance activities to provide the Secretary, Minister and Australian Government with confidence that the Department of Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force (ABF) are operating effectively, efficiently and lawfully.
The Organisational Compliance and Assurance Section includes the following functions and teams:
- Public Interest Disclosures
- Fraud and Corruption Control
- Policy, Procedure and Control Framework
The Fraud and Corruption Control Team ensures that the department meets its obligations under the Commonwealth Fraud and Corruption Control Framework 2024. This includes delivering a Fraud and Corruption Control Plan, providing tools and methodologies to enable business areas to assess their exposure to fraud and corruption risks, testing the effectiveness of the key controls used to prevent and detect fraud or corruption.

Our ideal candidate
The position is responsible for working with stakeholders across the Department of Home Affairs and external partners to maintain the Department of Home Affairs Fraud and Corruption Control Plan, develop and maintain tools to support business areas in identifying and managing risks of fraud and corruption. The position supports the development and analysis of reporting products as they relate to fraud and corruption.
The role may also be required to test individual fraud and corruption controls corruption data and prepare reports to key governance committees and the department's senior executives.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide advice about the requirements of the Commonwealth Fraud and Corruption Control Framework 2024.
- Assist with improving and updating fraud and corruption control policies, procedures and training.
- Identify, analyse, and advise on fraud and corruption risks and impacts.
- Conduct assessments of the department controls used to prevent, detect respond to fraud and corruption.
- Possess a high level of attention to detail and have highly effective written and oral communication skills.
Additional information
The following would be considered highly desirable:
- Broad knowledge of risk management and its application
- Diploma in Government (Fraud Control or equivalent) or the ability to obtain within 12 months of commencement

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
