About our team

 

National Operations | Operational Coordination & Planning | ABF International | International Desks - Americas-Europe-Rest of World, North & South Asia, Pacific, and Southeast Asia

 

Australian Border Force (ABF) International Desks provide support to our offshore Counsellor and First Secretary network across the Pacific, Asia, Europe and North America. This includes: ensuring country and forward work plans are aligned with ABF's priorities and strategic objectives and providing strategic advice to the executive in prosecuting ABF interests in highly contested geostrategic regions across the globe.

 

Our International desks collaborate with ABF business areas, Home Affairs, and across the Australian Government with international agencies to ensure the ABF is well positioned to influence international border policy and operations, and to deepen strategic relationships with priority partners. They leverage relationships to pursue opportunities and to defend our interests in respect to the Australian border. Desk officers require great representational skills, are skilled organisers who like working in a dynamic environment, lead with collaboration, have well developed writing and communication skills, and are effective stakeholder managers.

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Provide leadership and direction to a small team, guiding, mentoring and developing staff, aligning individual and team objectives to the broader ABF priorities/vision
  • Represent ABF International's interests across a number of internal and external forums, including with other Government departments, as well as Canberra-based foreign missions
  • Initiate, build and strategically maintain effective relationships with stakeholders to support business and agency objectives
  • Liaise with relevant business areas to seek input into responses to enquiries, coordinate, draft and oversee responses to correspondence, reporting and/or other complex or high-level documentation
  • Utilise written and verbal communication skills, and ability to modify strategic, targeted and complex messages to diverse audiences.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

​The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC)
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.

 
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
