About our team
Regional Operations | South & West | Operations SA/NT | Operations & Planning
Operations NT (Ops NT) is responsible for the conduct of efficient and effective customs and migration, surveillance, patrol and response activities in the Northern Territory including remote onshore and littoral operating domains. Ops NT is responsible for maintaining control of persons, goods, vessels and small-craft through activities in Northern Region's in-shore maritime environment outside of seaport limits. Ops NT delivers functions through border enforcement and operational activities on cross-border movements of people and goods across numerous areas, including international airports, seaports, and cargo facilities. Ops NT plays a vital role processing travellers and goods to protect Northern Australia's border from the entry of illegal and harmful goods, and those intending to commit migration fraud or threaten the national interest. These activities include processing travellers and goods arriving and departing Australia outside of major metropolitan airports and seaports, such as vessels and small-craft at remote seaports, and light aircraft at regional airfields.

Our ideal candidate
- Demonstrated experience in leading change management
- Extensive experience in managing workforce, human resources, finances and property
- Demonstrated ability of self-motivation, initiative, adaptability and capability to respond quickly to unexpected operational needs, which occur frequently due to the dynamic nature of the operating environment
- Prior front-line knowledge and experience in ABF environments, demonstrating the ability to operate effectively and professionally in high-performing teams in a time and resource pressured environment
- High level of understanding of the legislation and Enterprise Agreement with which we work
- Effective time management skills, coupled with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
- The highest standards of professionalism as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
Duties and responsibilities
- Monitor and sustain the resources (workforce and assets) through the delivery of workforce modelling to meet Operations NT's operational requirements
- Provide Branch-wide support on a diverse scope of issues through an in-depth knowledge of Branch objectives, and an understanding of the Branch's dynamics and culture
- Provide expert planning advice to the Superintendent Planning in relation to workforce, capabilities and executive co-ordination
- Engage collaboratively with counterparts across the Branch to drive the implementation of structure, capabilities, best practices and culture change
- Facilitate best practice processes and best business outcomes
- Identify and solve key workforce management issues
- Identify and coordinate opportunities for proactive staff engagement strategies
- Lead change management and reform, including cultural change
- Implement planning frameworks, business improvement strategies and corporate governance to enhance delivery of border related outcomes
- Provide effective communications and timely reporting within Operations NT on workforce, financial, logistics and capability to the Chief Superintendent and other Executive.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
