Strategy & Capability | ABF Workforce | ABF College 

 

The ABF College designs, develops and delivers both foundational and specialist training nationally for the ABF, to ensure officers are ready to conduct their duties across a range of operational domains. This training covers the entire gamut of modalities from face-to-face, immersive exercising and fully immersive VR applications.

 

The Future Technologies team is tasked to develop VR, PC, AR and MR (collectively XR) immersive and engaging training. The team seeking a new member to help develop high quality simulation training applications using industry standard games-based technologies.

 

The Future Technologies team is seeking to fill an Interactive Designer/Developer vacancy. 

 

This role is critical to the development of immersive virtual training focussing on VR and PC-based development, with opportunities to learn and develop in a broader range of modalities. With this role the candidate will also be required to help develop immersive desktop training exercises in the Avalanche software suite.

 

The team use typical industry standard software and tools including: Unreal, Maya/Blender, Substance, Visual Studio, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Suite, Avalanche etc.

The ideal candidate will have strong creative and narrative design skills and the ability to help develop scripts and storyboards for various immersive modalities. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about making a real difference through innovative and creative use of games-based technology to enhance training outcomes. The candidate should have a sound understanding of project management methodologies and experience in delivering successful project outcomes.

 

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

Our ideal candidate will have a strong, demonstrated grasp of games development design processes/practices and of Unreal blueprints. This is an ideal position for an early to mid-career games designer seeking to develop skills in serious games and simulation training projects using games industry tools. Tasks and duties will include:

 

  • Implementation of gameplay using Unreal engine and blueprints
  • Understand and apply different design approaches across various output modalities (e.g. VR and PC-based)
  • Script writing and narrative design
  • Maintain and develop design documentation
  • Contributing to the design of serious games and simulation training
  • Engage and collaborate with a range of policy stakeholders
  • Undertake research on current and emerging design principles, technology and applications
  • Develop a sound understanding of learning approaches, methods and pedagogy as applied to immersive virtual simulation training
  • Design and develop Avalanche desktop exercising scenarios under direction 
  • Maintain workplace standards, training, and APS values.

 

Additional information

 

Desirable Skills/knowledge:

  • Diploma or Degree in a related field
  • Excellent portfolio of work 
  • Experience with 3D art, animation and/or programming a bonus
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent (e.g. Instructional Design).

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
