GM Technology & Major Cap Group | ICT Division | Risk, Data & Insight Systems | Situational Awareness and Response
The Situational Awareness and Response (SAR) section within the Risk Data and Insight Systems Branch is responsible for the development and sustainment activities of the National Joint Common Operating Picture (NJCOP), a Class 2 system that developed through the collaborative efforts between Department of Home Affairs and National Emergency Management Australia.
The section incorporates the Maritime Systems team, which provides ICT development, support and maintenance expertise across the Australian Maritime Identification System (AMIS) and the Enterprise Geospatial Platform in support of the Australian Border Force Maritime Border Command (MBC). These systems support ABF staff in undertaking civil maritime security operations to keep our border safe from illegal activities in the Australian Maritime Domain.

- Experience in leading a technical team, set work area priorities, manage workflows, developing strategies and achieve business outcomes
- Experience managing a small high performing ICT team, providing direction support and performance oversight
- Experience maintaining an agile product backlog, ensuring clear priorities, and continuous delivery, and quality delivery management reporting
- Demonstrate sound communication skills; both written and verbal with the ability to foster stakeholder relationships
- Be adaptable and resilient in a dynamically changing environment
Duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for managing a technical team and ensuring quality outputs including that team members maintain a high level of specialist technical expertise.
- Maintaining secure configuration, applying and monitoring maintenance of tools, techniques and processes to identify, track, log and maintain accurate, complete and current information.
- Providing expert advice and evaluating new software and spatial data applications, ensuring they are tailored to facilitate the achievement of service objectives.
- Providing effective advice regarding correct and effective use of system software.
- Lead and manage a team to deliver assigned objectives and services effectively.
- Ensuring system documentation is updated.
Additional information
Mandatory qualifications/requirement/skills:
- Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, or significant experience in a similar role
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Project management or delivery management experience
- Knowledge of any of the following: operating systems, networking, security, testing, troubleshooting, database management, cloud computing, and automation
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience with ArcGIS Software
- Industry ICT certifications
- Experience with managing agile SDLC backlogs using tools such as JIRA or Azure
- AWS Cloud experience
- Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL), SQL querying, data mapping and integrations ITIL foundation
- Behaviours and values that contribute to a positive workplace, both in performing individual work tasks and when working with others

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
