Strategy & Capability | ABF Workforce | ABF College | Operational Safety Training Unit
Operational Safety Trainers (OSTs) deliver high quality operational safety [use of force (UoF)] training to ABF Officers, to ensure that officer safety is maximised during workplace and operational activities. This role requires the delivery of high quality UoF training to ABF Officers, to ensure that all operational activities undertaken in the marine, air and on shore environments are effective, efficient and conform to relevant legal and safety standards.

Our ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will have a varied operational background coupled with a passion for for delivering training and creating the best learning experience. Ideally you will also have a demonstrated experience as an OST in a law enforcement agency, military, corrections, security industry or an intelligence environment.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery and administration of approved and endorsed operational safety training to ABF Officers. Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of ABF operational safety training materials to enhance operational safety capabilities within ABF
- Assist and participate in OSTU Quality Assurance processes
- Assist and participate in OSTU projects
- Professionally develop to maintain currency as an OST, a Use of Force qualified officer and an ABF employee.
Additional information
Role requirements/qualifications:
- Ability to obtain and maintain medical, fitness and psychometric requirements relevant to the role
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or higher and vocational training delivery experience
- Be able to hold and maintain a current UoF qualification
- Be able to hold and maintain a current ABF Operational Safety Trainer qualification
- Hold a current Australian driver's licence.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
