Branch Overview

 

The Civil Maritime Sustainment Branch (CMSB) provides air and marine surveillance and patrol and response capabilities, which include a fleet of boats, contracted aircraft, satellite surveillance, command support and sensor systems, and logistics support.

 

The CMSB operates in a complex, challenging and changing environment that is characterised by a continual high tempo of operations.

 

Section Overview

 

Marine Logistics and Aviation is a geographically dispersed section providing nation-wide logistics support to the Australian Border Force (ABF) patrol vessel fleet, known as ABF Cutters (ABFC). We manage several contracts to support the fleet and also provide the contract management aspect of the aviation surveillance program, utilised by Maritime Border Command (MBC). The section operates warehouses in Darwin, Cairns, and Fremantle, with the executive in Canberra. 

 

Position Summary

 

Marine Logistics and Aviation Section is responsible for providing port services and re-supply of all Australian Border Force Cutters at all ports throughout Australia and external territories through ABF Marine Logistics Units. All positions within Marine Logistics & Aviation are critical positions within ABF providing enabling support to ensure that the ABF border surveillance strategies are achieved.

 

All positions within Marine logistics are unique to other areas of the ABF and as such the roles and responsibilities vary. With this variation there is a requirement to have or the ability to obtain, various sets of skills and knowledge in Supply Chain Management, Warehousing Management, Logistics Management, Contract Management, and involvement in Procurement Management.

We are looking for a driven, client-focused Senior Border Officer to manage the needs of the vessel fleet, managing the warehouse and warehouse staff, providing excellent service to the cutter fleet, and engaging with marine crew to help resolve any logistics issues they may face.

Duties and responsibilities

 

The Senior Marine Logistics Officer contributes to the following activities:

 

  • Planning logistics requirements for ad-hoc and planned vessel arrivals into your area of operations
  • Providing resolution to stores and equipment concerns from the cutter fleet
  • Managing the warehouse environment and team members
  • Identify on-the-job training needs and play a role in building staff capabilities through coaching, guiding and mentoring
  • Managing warehouse stock levels, use by dates, and serviceability of equipment
  • Operate forklift
  • Supervise staff performance
  • Undertake regional and interstate travel
  • Work in challenging environmental conditions (such as hot, cold, humid, wet or dry)
  • Work outside of the standard core hours, including an on-call roster
  • Work in small team and autonomously
  • Respect diversity and recognise benefits of diversity

Mandatory

 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain; 
    • relevant medical, fitness and psychometric standards
    • C class vehicle licence (standard drivers licence)
    • Forklift licence (training will be coordinated if required).

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
