About our team
DC National Operations | Maritime Border Command & OSB | MBC Chief Of Operations | MBC Operations
Maritime Border Command (MBC) is Australia's lead civil maritime authority responsible for safeguarding our extensive maritime border. We are enabled by both the Australian Border Force (ABF) and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to protect Australia's national interests by conducting civil maritime security operations to deter, detect and respond to illegal activities in the Australian Maritime Domain.
MBC operates as a multi-agency authority, structured as a standing Multi-Agency Task Force (MATF). Headquartered in Canberra, MBC is part of the ABF and includes officers from ABF, and ADF.
The Operations Directorate within MBC is responsible for planning and coordinating civil maritime security operations from MBC Headquarters in Canberra. This involves the deployment of ABF and ADF vessels, as well as ABF and Air Force surveillance aircraft, to combat threats such as drug trafficking, illegal fishing, and unauthorised maritime arrivals.
Our operations are managed through the 24/7 Australian Maritime Border Operations Centre (AMBOC), which maintains awareness of suspicious activities and partners with various agencies to manage risks. The AMBOC coordinates ABF and ADF resources to address security risks in Australia's maritime zone, leveraging combined assets from the ABF and ADF. This collaborative approach ensures efficient responses to threats facing our borders.
The AMBOC offers both shift and non-shift roles. Non-shift positions provide a unique opportunity to balance non-shift and shift work. Staff in non-shift roles must be ready and able to fill shift positions at short notice, ensuring seamless operational support into the AMBOC. Staff in a shift role must be able to commit to a permanent rotating roster that includes days, nights, and weekends.
These roles provide a unique opportunity to work in a multi- agency taskforce with a dynamic culture, exposure to a variety of tasks in a role that will keep you challenged and engaged. You will have access to comprehensive training and be provided professional development opportunities.
