APS 6 Learning Experience Designers within the Vocational Learning Design Team conduct the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of learning solutions for content owners across the Department of Home Affairs. This work is undertaken with a focus on applying the principles of adult learning and user-centred design to learning solutions.

Learning and Development Services is a dynamic and interesting place to work.  We support the Department in designing, developing and implementing eLearning solutions for our staff.  You will be working with a small team across Australia to support with undertaking learning needs assessments and designing eLearning solutions.  We are seeking a Learning Experience Designer who has a keen interest and experience developing learning solutions.  With an interest in developing engaging content, you will have a diverse range of duties and responsibilities.

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Design and develop training products to industry standards utilising Instructional, User Experience, and Learner Experience Design methodologies whilst adhering to accessibility standards and requirements
  • Collaborate with business areas to identify training needs and requirements, capability and skill gaps and appropriate learning strategies
  • Manage the publication of learning solutions into the Department’s learning environment
  • Conduct audit and quality assurance activities to ensure training materials are current and fit for purpose
  • Maintain high quality training packages and documentation in consultation with key business stakeholders, and internal and external specialists in the field
  • Promote the continuous improvement of learning and development activities and training courses, and the internal learning and development service model of the Department
  • Manage departmental training records and data
  • Identify and resolve assessment issues, ensuring transparency and fairness in all resolutions
  • Analyse training outcomes and attendee feedback on training effectiveness and report to senior team leads
  • Draw on contemporary sources to maintain awareness of best practice learning and development techniques, tools and solutions
  • Identify and maintain professional relationships with specialist training teams, internal stakeholders and business areas
  • Maintain effective partnerships with business units to evaluate and identify training and development requirements
  • Collaborate in cross agency networking to share knowledge and improve training performance
  • Manage multiple projects in a team environment, using modern project and workflow management tools and software
  • Supervise and manage staff to deliver assigned objectives and services
  • Provide high-level support to executive-level learning and development staff
  • Exercise delegations efficiently, effectively, ethically and in line with government guidelines
  • Design and develop learning solutions created through a systematic learning model (e.g. analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation) to support the development of capabilities within a business unit including: 
    • Documentation and governance material, such as:
      • storyboards
      • lesson plans
      • training management packages
      • evaluation plans
    • Multimedia learning products, such as:
      • eLearning courseware
      • VR and AR experiences
      • training videos
      • audio
    • Assessment activities, including:
      • questions
      • scenarios, and
      • on-the-job assessment.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
